Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu placed the state on high alert, ordering evacuation of coastal communities and closure of schools and ports. Odisha targeted a "zero casualty" goal with over 100 shelters activated.

- Disaster management in India is governed by the Disaster Management Act, 2005; the NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) under the PM is the apex body โ both are frequent CLAT passage themes
- IMD's cyclone-naming convention follows a rotating list set by WMO regional bodies; "Arnab" was named by India under this system

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer also apologised for the tone of social media posts regarding voter list errors. The case has raised serious concerns about the accuracy of electoral roll revision and the protection of voters' democratic rights.
Why is this IMPORTANT for CLAT?
- Right to vote flows from Articles 326 and 327; it is a statutory right under the Representation of the People Act, 1950 โ directly relevant to CLAT Constitutional Law sections
- The Election Commission of India (ECI) is a constitutional body under Article 324 โ independence and oversight of electoral rolls is central to free and fair elections

Source: The Hindu | Category: Indian Polity & Constitutional Law
What Happened?
The Supreme Court of India issued notice to the Central Government on petitions challenging Vande Mataram as "divisive," alleging that compelling citizens to sing the national song violates their freedom of religion and conscience. The petitioners argued that the national song, which references the Mother Goddess (Durga), conflicts with the religious beliefs of some communities, especially Muslims and Christians. The Court agreed to examine the constitutional validity of any compulsion to sing the song.
Why is this IMPORTANT for CLAT?
- Vande Mataram's constitutional status (national song vs. national anthem) and freedom of religion (Articles 25โ28) are classic CLAT Constitutional Law topics
- The right to conscience and freedom from religious compulsion is protected under Article 25 โ this case directly tests knowledge of these provisions

Source: The Hindu, Indian Express | Category: Indian Polity & Constitutional Law / Economy: Regulation
What Happened?
The Supreme Court issued notice to the Central Government on a petition filed by news publishers challenging the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA). Publishers argued that the Act's provisions could shut down newsrooms and fundamentally alter how journalism operates, particularly by restricting the collection and processing of personal data in the public interest. The petitioners contended that the Act poses a serious threat to press freedom and the public's right to information.
Why is this IMPORTANT for CLAT?
- The DPDPA 2023 is India's first comprehensive data protection law โ it replaced the IT (Amendment) Act provisions and balances privacy (Art 21) with free press (Art 19(1)(a))
- The conflict between Right to Privacy (Puttaswamy judgment, 2017) and Press Freedom is a central constitutional tension โ ideal for CLAT passage-based questions

5. Supreme Court: Economic Policy Cannot Outweigh Citizens' Right to Life โ Medicine Prices
Source: The Hindu, IAS Squad | Category: Indian Polity & Constitutional Law
What Happened?
The Supreme Court held that the government's economic policy on drug pricing cannot take precedence over citizens' right to life under Article 21. In a significant ruling, the Court criticised the Centre's calibrated approach to drug price controls, stating that making essential medicines unaffordable was inconsistent with the State's constitutional obligation to protect life. The Centre had defended its price-control mechanism through the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) and the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO).
